Immune cell therapy

What is immune cell therapy?

Immune cell therapy was developed under the concept in connection to efficient use of general function of body, so-called immune system. The immune system is generally functioned to protect human body from disease by identifying and attacking abnormal cells, such as cancer cells or virus-infected cells. Therefore, the immune cell therapy is to improve patient’s immunity by using each patient’s own immune cells which are activated and proliferated by processing outside their body in order to attack the abnormal cells effectively.

A remarkable characteristic of immune cell therapy is that this method has no adverse reaction in essence, with little risk of damages to the patient’s body owing to the use of the patient-derived cells.

Immune cell therapy has already been applied clinically as a systemic treatment in cancer treatment in order to keep patients’ QOL (Quality of Life) at higher levels.

Types of Immune cell therapy

We select an appropriate type of the Immune cell therapy for each patient by condition and primary treatment. 4 types of the Immune cell therapy as followed;

Activated lymphocyte therapy

Lymphocytes, including T cell, NK cell, and other cells, are isolated from peripheral blood of a patient. In this therapy, such lymphocytes get activated, proliferated with anti-CD3 antibodies and interleukin-2 outside of patients’ body, and then injected back to the patient’s body.

Activated NK cell therapy

NK (Natural Killer) cells are a type of lymphocyte and induce death in cancer cells. In this therapy, NK cells get selectively activated, proliferated outside patients’ body, and then injected back to the patient’s body.

Activated tumor-specific lymphocyte therapy

Lymphocytes, including T cell, NK cell, and other cells, get isolated from peripheral blood in this therapy. Lymphocytes are cultured with synthesized peptides (conjunctions of several to some dozens of amino acids,) which enables lymphocytes induce death in cancer cells. Then lymphocytes get injected back to each patient.

Tumor-specific active dendritic cell therapy

In this therapy, monocytes get isolated from peripheral blood and differentiated to dendritic cells (DCs). DCs are cultured with synthesized peptides (conjunctions of several to some dozens of amino acids), which enables DCs to present antigens on their surface. Then DCs get injected back to each patient.

Treatment procedure

Step 1Free consultation

If you would like to get free consultation, please check out our contact information and make an appointment. The personal information you send will be managed appropriately and will not be provided or disclosed to third parties without your permission.

Step 2First visit

First, We will explain immunotherapy and treatment at our clinic and answer your questions. If you decide to start the treatment at this moment, an appointment for the first visit and blood collection of your family members will be made, or we will proceed to what can be done in the first visit and blood collection when you are present. The cost for the first medical examination is ¥36,000.

  • If available, please bring a referral letter.
  • If you don’t have a referral letter, you may need a blood test, electrocardiography and percutaneous blood oxygen saturation concentration measurement. Please keep in mind that expenses are required separately.

Step 3Treatment

We collect your blood at your first visit, and then will cultivate lymphocytes for 2 weeks in Cell Processing Center (CPC). Two weeks later, you have to come back to receive the initial infusion of cultivated immune cells. Infusion of the cultivated immune cells takes about 40 minutes and you may relax on bed. Once second blood collection is done, drip or injection of cultivated immune cells is carried out. (You also have to make an appointment of your next visit during doctor consultation.) Blood collection will be done every four weeks.
This treatment procedure is repeated 6 or 12 times as one course. After completing each course, your future treatment strategy and treatment schedule are discussed according to your health condition and treatment outcome, and will be decided among you, your family, and a doctor.
